The Knowledge about Periodontal Diseaes of Freshmen in Taegu City

Abstract

|
This study was conducted to investigate the knowledge about periodontal disease of the college students and their oral health status. This investigation were done on some freshmen(407 Persons) of colleges in Taegu City from 3th to 31th March by questionnaire survey. The analysed results were as follows: The females was better than that of the males, in their knowledge on periodontal disease and scaling as well as their status of tooth brushing and the use of a aid in physiotherapy. In case of the knowledge on periodontal disease, 55.5% was acquainted with a cause of the disease. And 40.5% had learned through the paper or broadcasting. 64.1% misunderstood about the medical treatment supplies for a gum. In case of the knowledge on scaling. 20.6% had experience in scaling and 68.1% answered that scaling was helpful to periodontal health. The respondents who had experience of the education for tooth brushing were 62.7%. 31.9% brushed teeth in 3times or more everyday, 20.1% after every meal and 26.0% with rolling method. In using of a aid in physiotherapy, the respondents who use the disclosing solution were 4.9%, the respondents who use mouth rines were 16.2% and the respondents who use the dental floss silk were 10.8%. This survey reached the conclusion that the freshmens of college were unconcerned about periodontal disease and were careless of their control of oral health.
